News1. Why is she in the news?
Anne Diamond's son, Sebastian, died at 4 months old of cot death. She began a campaign to urge parents to put their babies to sleep on their backs and this has reduced the amount of cot death's drastically in the UK. Diamond complained about the press chasing her to the funeral of her son and being outside her house 30 minutes after the death. 2. How does this story link to the PCC codes and Leveson Inquiry? The press were in breach of clause 5 of the PCC's code of practise - it was a case involving personal grief and shock and the press did not approach the situation with sympathy. 3. What do you think are the three key things that the Leveson Inquiry has taught us?

11/8/2016 0 Comments TV shows complaints - OfcomDerren Brown's Seance - 2004 This illusionist invited 12 people to try and contact teens who commit suicide in the past, over 600 complaints were received from viewers. Channel 4 received 300 complaints before the show aired, and 100 after, majority were from religious groups concerned about the content. The hoax brought in 2.8 million views, but Ofcom received 200 complaints on top of the 400 to channel 4. Brass Eye Paedogeddon - July 2001 This show special was a take on the UK's moral panic and the complaints it received was the desired outcome. It got about 3,000 complaints, with 1,000 to Channel 4 and 560 to the Independent Television Commission. X-Factor - 2013 Lady Gaga performed 2 of her songs on the show and brought in over 150 complaints to Ofcom in regards to her costume, lyrics and performance. Gaga wore a nude coloured bra and pants on stage leading to complaints stating that there should not be this much nudity before the 9pm watershed. A spokesperson for ITV defended Gaga saying how she is 'well known for her highly individual style'. This is not the only situation on the X-Factor that provoked complaints, in 2010 Rihanna and Christina Aguilera gathered over 1,000 complaints to Ofcom. The One Show - December 2011 (BBC 1) Jeremy Clarkson featured on the show and caused an outburst of complaints from comments he made. The BBC received over 31,000 complaints, he made the comment/joke 'striking public sector workers should be executed in front of their families', basically saying that the public sector workers on strike should be killed. Clarkson continued making jokes and one that provoked controversy was he explained how people who jump in front of trains to commit suicide are 'selfish'. Ofcom also received a high number of complaints reaching almost 800, they investigated his comments from the show. Celebrity Big Brother - August 2016 54 complaints made about the show when 2 people, Marnie Simpson and Lewis Bloor, showered together, Marnie then showed her naked body to the camera. Complaints were made on Twitter and to Ofcom. In the same episode another 2 people were shown in the toilet. Ofcom recieved the 54 complaints with 34 about the shower scene. Highest complaint shows

Queen of the Damned - 15 (2002) Although this film is rated 15, it managed to influence Allen Menzies, 22, to kill his long time friend, Thomas McKendrick. Menzies claimed that he was visited in his home by the vampire, Akasha, from the film, he said that when she visited him she said that he would be rewarded with being a immortal (a vampire) in the 'next life' if he began to kill people. Menzies said that he believed that McKendrick and another friend, Stuart Unwin, were plotting to kill him and he claims he heard this in his mind. He told the court he killed McKendrick with a bowie knife, kitchen knife and a hammer, he had stabbed his friend to death, drank his blood and then eaten part of his head, he said that his father disposed of the body. Menzies told the court that he kept getting visits after the killing but he denied to kill more people, two psychiatrists had earlier said that Menzies was not suffering from a severe mental illness when he attacked his friend. The Exorcist - 18 (1973) This film is about a demon possessing a young girl, from the time it was made, the effects used to make it look like the girl was being thrown around in her bed and the demon speaking from her etc. were modern and this caused moral panic around the world due to it's religious content, it provoked vomiting, fainting and heart attacks within the cinemas. People became very anxious and panicked about the moral standards of society. The Interview - 15 (2015) This film is a comedy about an American chat show host who goes to do an interview with the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-Un, and the CIA within the film demanded that they assassinate him. The film was complained about to the US by North Korea because of the assassination promoting terrorism. The spokesperson for Korea said, "shows the desperation of the US government and American society – a film about the assassination of a foreign leader mirrors what the US has done in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Ukraine.". 9/15/2016 0 Comments Film ratingsG = General audiences No nudity, no intercourse, no drugs.
